Our Story
Applied Landscaping is owner-operated by Andrew, drawing on more than 30 years of practical experience across horticulture, garden maintenance, irrigation, landscape construction and design.
Andrew began working part-time in gardens after school while completing his VCE and studying horticulture at TAFE in the evenings.
Applied Horticultural Services was established in 1999. Over time, the work broadened from garden maintenance and horticulture into irrigation, landscape construction and design.
I’ve spent more than 30 years working with people and their gardens, continually learning from the different problems, plants, materials and systems encountered along the way. One thing that experience has reinforced is that gardens and horticulture are a continual learning process.
That experience has shaped the way I work today — looking at what is already there, understanding what people need from their garden and finding practical ways to maintain, improve or change it.
Qualifications and training
- Certificate IV in Horticulture – Parks & Gardens
- Certificate III in Landscape Construction
- Certificate IV in Applied Design – Landscape
- Studies in Certificate IV Arboriculture
- Currently completing Certificate IV in Training and Assessment – VET/TAFE teaching
How I like to work
Understanding what you want from the garden comes before deciding what work is needed. Sometimes that means making changes; other times it means improving, repairing or making better use of what is already there.
Where it makes sense, decisions also consider future maintenance, water use, durability and whether existing plants or materials can sensibly be retained. Looking at those factors together can help the result work well over time without creating unnecessary work or avoidable problems later.

Applied Landscaping and Applied Horticultural Services
You may have seen the business referred to as Applied Landscaping, Applied Horticultural Services, or Applied Landscaping & Applied Horticultural Services.
Applied Horticultural Services was established in 1999 and has been the long-standing business name through much of the work and experience behind the business.
Applied Landscaping was registered later and is now the main name used for garden maintenance, irrigation and landscaping services.
Today, Andrew works primarily under the Applied Landscaping name, while the horticultural and technical background developed through Applied Horticultural Services remains part of the way the work is approached.
The name may be newer, but the experience behind it is not.
